Course
The WILDROO Ultra Marathon offers runners the option of a 30K or 60K race distance. The course route starts and finishes in the township of Penneshaw. A sunrise hill climb transports runners to the top of Dudley Peninsula providing panoramic views over the ocean to mainland South Australia. Runners will head south crossing over Chapman River and looping around Cape Willoughby lighthouse, before a detour across coastal farm trails that pass by spectacular Antechamber Bay. The final stretch descends a historic tree lined canopy called Binney's track, returning runners to the local footy oval where they'll be greeted by family and friends.

The Kangaroo Island Oats WILDROO Ultra Marathon is owned by 1908 Sports Management. Our vision is to raise the profile of Kangaroo Island as one of the Top 10 destination marathons in the world. We are proud that both our events deliver a significant economic benefit to the local tourism industry.
The event was founded by Race Director Nate Godfrey and is operated in partnership with key stakeholders including the Kangaroo Island Council and South Australian Tourism Commission, and major naming rights sponsor Kangaroo Island Oats. The event is held in a remote location and is supported by a team of experienced paramedics from Event Medical Plus.
History
In 1800 the British Government commissioned Captain Matthew Flinders to explore and map the southern coastline of Terra Australis in HMS Investigator. Flinders made the first recorded European sighting of the island in March 1802. He came ashore on the north coast and named Kangaroo Island.
Kangaroo island is Australia’s third largest island, with a population of 4500 people and a coastline totalling 480km. The island is a bio-diverse hotspot; organic GMA free produce, rare flora and fauna, and picturesque beaches. Kangaroo Island is surrounded by five marine sanctuaries and one third of the land is designated as national parks, helping to position Kangaroo Island as a 'must see' tourist destination.
